Did you read the last thing he said? "Tell me why"

Read thoroughly first.

The spark need to cool and anything you put on the threads could act like an insulator. It helps the plug run at it proper operating temperature.

On the flip side you have a steel plug and an Aluminum head, heat cycles that could add up to major issues. Its not oxidation, or corrosion it would be something else.

He already said that wasn't it. As far as cooling the plugs the oil would not interfere as the plug will be the same temperature as the cylinder as a result of conduction.

I think the word you might be referring to is electrolysis.

I need more, this can be easy or complicated

1) if you oil the outside the plug it would short out electricity is lazy

2) The plugs have to cool down this has nothing to do with heat range. The head helps dissipate the heat.

I found this from a Mercedes site..

It helps to lubricate the threads with anti-seize as you don't want to gall the spark plug bores on removal or installation. You can also use light oil if you prefer but anti-seize is a better thermal conductor and is preferable in the interface. Galling occurs when the aluminum cylinder head threads seize and stick to the plated steel spark plug threads. Many

3) Than to make matters worse Aluminum head, steel plugs, electricity you get electrolysis. ( thanks Dann )

So Ray when you get a chance, help.

I have never heard to place oil on the plugs at all. Even though Ray says not to do it, and I would always listen to him, I have to wonder why Mercedes guys would think it is a good idea.
