Answer

Between 1971 and 1979.

Volkswagens are built by German people, who do NOTHING at random. Let us, then, dissect this part number.

The first three digits are the model which this part was originally used on. In this case, the first 1 means "type 1"--sedans--and the "13" immediately after it stands for Super Beetle. (This is also how we know the part is from a 1970s-era car: Supers were introduced in 1971.)

The second group is the Part Class. The "3" is for transmission parts; 01 means the case. The whole transmission is part group 300.

The third group is just a one-up notation, but VW liked to use the same numbers for the same part on different cars--like a brake shoe on a Super and one on a Bus would have the same third group, even though bus brakes and bug brakes are different.

My Porsche transmissions only have one side plate. Nylon bushings are good. Ken would know what year it is we were talking about it on Monday. He told me VW did a lot of experimenting on ring and pinion ratios. !970 was a one off maybe 72-73 was another and 74 up were something else. I may have the years off but you get the point.

You guys are soooo helpful. Now I remember why I post things on here. It's for all the intelligent help I get and not the colorful commentary.

Dave was on it, it is a late model tranny and will actually fit my needs nicely.

The gearing turns out to be a bit better than a typical 'Freeway Flyer'.

I need to look at the nosecone, it has three bolts, where I think the older style has the two staggered. I might need to swap the nosecones out.

The throwout bearing situation is a little different as well. Need to look at the clutch disk when I drop the motor.

So it looks like I have 3 options:

1: Change the nose cone and hockey stick and use my Rhino mounts (preferred).

2: Use an EMPI urethane adapter. Quiet but concerns me as all their urethane stuff seems to come apart. Haven't found a non-EMPI alternative. Maybe Bug-Pak?

3: Solid mount. I think this will have too much noise and vibration.

Option 4. Big block and turbo 400.

Any IRS nose cone will fit. You can use an early swing axle nose cone, but you need to do some minor die grinding inside the cone to clear the bearings. I've done the swap several times using early and late nose cones. It's an easy swap. Those are very nice trannys.
You know my feelings about Empi urethane.
Solids mounts are really harsh for a street driver.

Thanks Eric for the support. I think I am going try and swap the nose cone from the '69 when I do the switch. I think that will work. I should just need a new gasket.

From now on I am going to throw poop at Dann every time I drive by his house.

Same thing with Greg once I figure out where he lives, and I will find out.

But Dann can still park next to me, for now...

I cannot believe the hostility exhibited by Matt. I don't want to park anywhere near him as he will probably smell like poop.

Fine, be that way. It's not my fault you're oversensitive.

I'll find a new parking buddy if that is what you want...

I'll save up a baggy of poop for you to throw at them. In the meanwhile, if you use this link and search for "3 bolt nose cone swap" there is a lot of useful info. Your '69 cone should work. but be VERY careful to make sure that the bearing cage doesn't rub. If it does, you just die-grind clearance into the nosecone.
