PostSubject: Pedal Cluster Rebuild   Sat Aug 06, 2011 6:18 pm

To Polish or Paint???

Rebuilding a pedal cluster for May.

So this is what the base looks like after removing over 40 years of gunk, I was surprised.

I was going to just paint this part black but now I am considering just getting the Dremel out with some paste and polishing this bad boy up. I think it will look sweet.

I have seen the base drilled and tapped for a 6mm Zirk fitting for getting grease to the clutch shaft but I am not sure I am going to go that crazy.

WELL.....WORK VS. LOOK?

THE PEDAL CLUSTER SITS UNDER YOUR DIRTY FOOT EVERYTIME YOU DRIVE THE CAR. IT IS ALSO KINDA COVERED BY THE PEDALS.

IF ITS PAINTED BLACK.....YOU WONT EVEN NOTICE ITS THERE CUZ IT BLENDS INTO THE FLOORING/CARPET AND PEDAL PADS.

IF YOU POLISH.....IT WONT BE JUST THE CLUSTER, ITLL HAVE TO BE THE PEDAL ARMS TOO. ALSO BECAUSE IT WILL STAND OUT, THAT WILL BE JUST ANOTHER PIECE TO TRY TO KEEP CLEAN WHEN IT COMES TO SHOWS. ALSO ANY EXTRA GREASE, GUNK, OR ANY OXIDATION, DIRT, MUD, ETC WILL STICK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB

I just cleaned it up. It's not chrome polished but it has a nice aluminum shine.

I have the aluminum 'turbo' pedal from CB to use while I am saving for a cruiser. I am going to paint the CB pedal black and then sand off the paint from the top leaving the black paint in the groves.

The 3/4 inch extension spacer for the clutch pedal is also a polished aluminum.

These along with the newly painted black clutch and break pedals give a nice aluminum and black combo that are pleasing to the pallet.

I'll post some pictures when it's done...

If it looks like crap it has to go fast. If it looks good it can go any speed.

Time consuming.

I am looking for one of those rollers that look like a inline skate wheel.

I saw one in the magazine...

I have a few different rollers around the garage. A bed frame roller worked pretty good on a 72 super but it is different from my 63. I salvaged one yesterday that has a rubber coating so you foot wont slip, came off a Hoover that I modified for the blasting cabinet

scratch
