Did you pop the button out? The cable gets slack with use and if you pull too hard, you will disconnect it. Pretty easy fix if you bring it to Tuesday's social?

Yup, the little ratchet gets flipped around. Flat head screwdriver putting it back in place while someoen pulls up on it will fix it, but...

This is a sure sign that the cables need to be adjusted. It should engage at only 4 clicks. It's very easy to do right at the base of the handle. if the cables are stretched, you can add some tubing shims.

For some reason, people yank on their e-brakes like the future of civilization depends on it. You just pull it up until it quits resisting and the car doesn't roll. No need to yank it with all your might. This is the big reason why the cables stretch.

It is my understanding that you should adjust the brakes (service brakes) on the car if you don't want to keep having to do the e-brake over and over. Better long term fix. The fact that it stretches (cable doesn't really stretch, but for lack of a better description) is *because* the brakes need adjusting.

All i know is that i used it when i went to work and when i went to park it when i got home ( i live on a hill might i mind you...) it wouldnt engage at all!.... so i have been parking it in gear and basically having it lean on the curb for its "brake" at night.

P.S. Took the button out... and along with it a spring. but didnt see anything that a cable to hook on besides a little bent at the end of the spring but there wasnt enough to even tie a piece of floss on the end of it..... SO ya.....

And when is tech day? Is ther any day that there is a earlier day? Just wondering.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PARK IT IN GEAR AND CURB YOUR TIRES ANYWAYS, WEATHER THE PARKING BRAKE WORKS OR NOT. THAT IS TO BACK UP YOUR, AND OTHERS CARS SAFETY IF THE PARKING BRAKE DOESNT HOLD. ITS OK IF SOMEONE ELSES CAR ROLLS INTO YOURS (ITS A ROUGHLY $1000-1500 CHECK INTO YOUR POCKET) ITS NOT OK TO LET YOUR CAR DO THE ROLLING THO

I think he takes it out of gear when he parks the car.

You 're right Cliff. The brake cables could potentially snap at any time. In gear, curbed wheels, and parking brake on, is the only way to go.

I always curb my wheels.

Spencer do you

Curb your wheels
Put your car in first gear
use your emergency brake

Or

Curb your wheels
Put the car in neutral
emergency brake

Why would you put it in neutral? The trans acts as a "brake" of sorts also. It helps so that the emergency brake doesn't have to do all of the work.

...and why the question mark?

You either do or don't.

Put car in first when parked. Curb wheels appropriately on inclines.
E brake is pretty easy to deal with. I'll be up this weekend and can fix it.

It DOES need to be dealt with. It's called an emergency brake for a reason. If you loose brakes, it's your last resort. Saved me once.
I often stop with it, or use if down hill.

Why?
So that I'm already instinctively ready to use it.

It's not an emergency brake...it is a parking brake.

I popped my button the other day also, had a frustrating moment in the driveway and yanked it a little too hard! I would appreciate watching whoever helps fix Spencers so I know how to fix mine! See you Tuesday!
