Are you sure the cable broke? I know if the hook that attaches the cable to the pedal breaks, it will have the same symptoms as a broken cable. (I have experienced both).

Yea the part that connects to the clutch hook ripped out. The cable was bone dry and a newer replacement. Ive tried everything, and now it wont move at all. Im lost as to what it could be. I just tried running the new cable through the back to force it through the front, that technique worked perfect for the other bugs throttle cable. But no luck.

So I had a similar issue with replacing the heater box cables in May.

They would only move back and forth a couple of inches before they would stick.

Did not make sense to me.

I ended up using the little red tube and squirting WD40 in the ends of the cable tube and then working the cable back and forth.

Spray. Back and forth. Spray. Back and forth.

I was eventually able to pull them out, but I still ended up making a kind of pipe cleaner to clean the tube out further before the new cables would go through.

Bummer... Good Luck.

Ill give the WD-40 a shot. I put quite a bit of grease on the threaded piece to help slide it out the bowden tube and that worked out nicely. Then stuck as soon as it left the bowden tube.

I took my Bowden tube off when I replaced my clutch cable.

It was a pain in the arse getting it back in that rubber grommet thing...

So the cable broke near the pedal assembly right.

You have a couple of options.

I would think you will have to remove it by pulling it forward. You may need to remove the bowden tube. The flexible tube over the transmission. With the tube removed and it is still hard you may want to take the access plug out of the front of the car for working on the shift rod and fish a rod or a cable, mechanics wire back to the old cable attach the two together. Doing this you are pulling straight it should be easier on you and your car. You dont want to break the clutch tube.

Good luck

That is a good idea Jeff. You still may want to remove the bowden tube.

...and maybe something with better penetrating properties, like LPS. WD-40 is OK, but it's essentially fish oil (no kidding!) and can leave a varnishy residue that gets tacky.

It should work in a pinch, though if you can get enough in.

These things that should be so easy so often turn into a major project. It sucks.

What ever it was, its gone now. I dont know wtf was going. But this morning it slid right out. Ive got the new cable in and would be on the but my "help" let the pedal lay flat and must take the pedals again.

Always run the drill in reverse when doing this....

Sometimes a fresh start is all you need. Was it smooth putting the new one in or did you feel resistance?

No resistance. What ever little gremlin was inside there holding it tight mustve jumped out the back. Nothing popped out when I ran the new cable through
