PostSubject: Belt Squeek?   Fri Mar 04, 2011 1:08 am

So has anyone ever experienced there belt making a squeeking noise?

I am not sure it is my belt, but sometimes when I am sitting at a light and accelerate, I hear a short squeek.

It sounds like the belt, but I can't repeat the sound in my garage when I have the deck lid up.

I replaced the belt, I can't recall the noise before replacing the belt. It is a bit tighter.

Anyways, anyone ever experience this sound???

scratch

OH, and if anyone has experienced it, how do you get it to stop? Bigger belt?

Yes but during heavy acceleration. It will be interesting if it happens with a generator.

you can try some belt dressing spray.. if that helps, then you can lightly sand the insides of the pulley with like 220 grit paper to give a better grabbing surface and re-adjust your belt. Your belt should have about 1/2" to 3/4" play in it.

I tried the sanding or I may of thrown it in the blasting cabinet. Changed the belt and it did not help. I just figured to much acceleration, back off.

The squeak is temporary. Just floor it and the engine will be loud enough you won't hear it anymore.

Not enough shims in the pulley? Causing it to squeeze the belt too tight.

Tight is just as bad as loose. It can kill the generator/alternator bearings.
Try some belt dressing. I like the stuff in the red can. Can't recall the brand, but it's nice and sticky.

It might not be the belt.

It might be the clutch.

It is something I am investigating... scratch

Could be the throwout bearing. Also, have you checked the fluid level in the trans?

I was checking it out tonight, I think you're spot on with the throwout bearing....

Sad

If its the throwout bearing doesn't it usually get louder/more apparent when the clutch is pressed it. My subaru squeels like crazy when I do , lol. I need to replace my throwout bearing.

Better check it. If it melts together or breaks up, you're in for a lovely mess.

When I run an alternator I get that nasty squeak well is sounds like someone torturing a small animal. Now I am back to a generator and it is quiet.

So the battery is getting changed and piece and quiet.

Does the alternator have a bad bearing?

I think the belt is too tight.

I am going to put the old loose belt back on and see if the nosie goes away.

Then I will know...
