Now guys if you are ever shopping for a used new motor and it is a GEX run. They are better know as GOING TO EXPLODE in some air cooled communities.

Butt shot

five bolts later

Trusty wench (little german girl)special curved

And both wheels on the ground, I know it only takes 20 minutes with the real valance on. Its like removing the motor in a Cliffs car. Easy breezy

Now time to play around with a type 4 motor. I think I have some modified tin I have to measure the flywheel. My turbo motor in my 914 was in a bug at one time. Should fit. If its close I could get a high torque starter and let the fly wheel do the clearance work. If I can just get it to spin fast enough to start.

Well lunch time and off to the garage. Now who has a plasma cutter.

This was real easy. Nothing to get in the way.

Looks clean enough so how about another

And now with cooling shroud

Basically it looks like no rear valance and I have some standoff for the hood. Even though the flywheel is the same size it does rub. Lots of questions, many options, hey its a nice day to be outside. With the extra weight it would be a great wheel stander. scratch

I am going to pull the carbs and pull the motor out until it rotates and see where it hits. I always run self supporting starters could be anything. bounce

PostSubject: we have rotation   Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:37 pm

we have rotation, had to change to a VW flywheel. Not as thick. Now where did I put that clutch. Cylinder tin is in place I have to find something for the back bell housing piece.

Got to scoot no turbo email still waiting. I hate to wait.

Looks good. I'll agree that waiting sucks.

PostSubject: now the hold up   Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:09 am

I need a special pressure plate since I am running a swing axle. I will need a bearing like thing that goes into the pressure plate for the throw out bearing to ride on. I wanted to do this responsible. Well using existing stock on hand.

The other option is to change throwout bearings.

I will bolt some exhaust on tomorrow and see how far it sticks out . My best friend has a DTM for $500. Some guy in Chico had a whole motor already converted, It may pop back up.

Good day

And

Good night cheers

I have talked to the guy with the turbo. I pick it up Wednesday. It looks like I will be running the 1915 type 1. I will conference with Speedie since it is a carb setup. What fuel pump, fuel regulator to get. bounce

Next issue Transmission mounts Rhino from CB? Or wait til after swap meet?? scratch

Make traction bar bounce That is what my motor looked like before traction bar..

Does anyone have a link pin spindle I can borrow to see if I can make a set of 914 front disks work.. I have a set lying around.

Power gain is relevant to boost pressure. It is my understanding every time you double you boost you double your HP. I have no idea how much you can push a VW motor.

With draw thru, the float bowl pressure doesn't change, so you should use whatever fuel pump and regulator are compatible with the carb that you're running.
Rule of thumb with turbo boost is that HP doubles with every 10lbs of boost. ie: 60hp motor with 10lbs boost = 120hp. 60hp motor with 20lbs boost=180hp.
Figures are based on a "perfect world" scenario; proper heads, engineered turbo system etc.....
Personally, I would never try pushing over 10lbs on a motor that wasn't professionally engineered and built for boost. I was originally running 10lbs on the buggy, but because of pre-ignition and heating problems, I backed it off to 7lbs and haven't had a problem since.

Speedie are you blowing through a progressive Weber?
What about a DCNF tbl all the time

options both would be a blow through. Thoughts

Both of mine are blowing thru Weber 32/36 progressives. I like them because the turbo won't even spool up until you get into the secondary's. You can also jet the secondary side so that you don't lean out on the top end, but it won't affect the bottom end. I've never tried a DCNF, but there's no reason it wouldn't work.

Oh I like that. I have two progressive to play with and a DCNF. I have intakes for type 4 motor for both. Something to sleep on. I have a 1/2 4bl Holley they turbo them with a type 1 manifold. I think they use them on circle tracks. To many option for my poor brain.

Thanks as always

When I start thinking too much, I have to ask myself "How will this animal behave on the street?" That usually helps me make decisions. Laughing

My problem is how much is it going to cost
Than reality sets in.
I like to use as many parts as possible I have two progressives and bug-o-rama is soon. So I have lots to play with. I have the intake you have the knowledge/experience. The progressive intake will fit much better. Pictures after lunch..

I have a 15 1/2 year old girl working on getting her permit. I cannot go to big. I want this to be a Daily driver. So swinging back towards Type 4. Hydraulic cam. in bug

PostSubject: mock turbo set up   Tue Mar 01, 2011 3:28 pm

Played a little in the garage I was able to do a bock turbo setup. I like this a lot. I should keep the heat away from the cooling fan. If I go this route it will be this design. I will not go upright. I am going to scour the garage I need a special pressure plate. bounce

This is by no means final. I would run a 90 right off the carburetor so it would not go as high. This is just left overs.
