PostSubject: The Sea Witch   Sun May 06, 2012 3:08 pm

Ok, here is the story behind the car I found her on craigslist a couple weeks ago. The ad described her as a nonrunning 66 squareback, with holes in the floorboard and a damaged rear fender. After seeing the post up for a few days I e-mailed the owner my phone number. When she called me back she told me the car was her mothers and she had stopped driving it in the 80’s. She had lots of calls on the car but nobody seemed to be interested in driving up to Nevada City to see it. She was planning on selling it for scrap metal if nobody bought it. I couldn’t stand the thought of seeing one crushed so on Friday night my Dad and I loaded up the car trailer and headed up the hill. We were not going to have daylight for very long and I did not want to load the car in the dark so I gave it a quick once over and made the deal. The car is rough from sitting but well worth the 300 dollar price tag. After loading it up with 2 flat tires and getting my truck stuck on the owner’s farm we made it home after 11pm. I have the car stored at my Dad’s for a few weeks until I can get a few projects finished up here and make room for the new project. I went by yesterday and took some more pictures.

The engine compartment has some rust by the oil fill panel.

The pan is rusted out around the battery area and the passenger floorboard, but the heater channels feel solid.

I will know more about what I am going to do with the car once I get her home and start taking her apart. If it is not too far gone I plan on restoring her as a driver.

I'm going crazy. I cant get it home for another week. Everytime I am at my Dads I look a little further and it seems like a good foundation for a driver project. I just need to get it home and start ripping it apart. I'm thinking maybe a club "body removal party" how much can you bench press?

Yea sounds like fun to me!

AND we can take it apart and put it in the back of my truck for 'temporary' storage.

Just don't let me 'forget' that it is back there and drive off with it...

Kidding, but a dismantle is always a good time!

the Sea Witch has had a minor setback. I started gutting the interior and found the rust in the passanger floorboard by the battery tray has migrated into the tunnel and the wishbone mount in the center of the car. I will know more when I get further in. I'm thinking the easiest fix for this problem is another pan. Anyone seen a usable one around anywhere lately. Junkyards etc?

I havent touched it since I picked up the extra pan. I want to get a few things done on the 48 before I dive into it. so basically it just sits. I think the hard part is that once I start i'm committed and I need to take the car completly apart. I want to be sure I have enough space to do it right.
