PostSubject: Wiper Assembly   Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:54 am

Hey All

So we noticed that the wiper assembly may be shot. I used them last week when we had rain and the passenger side stopped in the up position while the driver side kept going. Yesterday I noticed that the driver side "fell" down further than the stop point. We tried to tighten down the screws but it did not help. We did purchase a new wiper arm last month for the passenger side, but that didn't seem to be the problem.

When I order new parts am I looking for a new wiper shaft?? Where is the best place to buy this as I'm trying to stay stock on everything...Wolfburg West is OTS.

Thank you
Lita

Did you look at Air Head Parts?

http://www.airheadparts.com

They have most everything...

It sounds to me like they're stripped out.

Search for 'wiper'

If you put in the year and model of your VW it will narrow your options down to the correct parts.

It will come up with everything in the wiper assembly.

I believe you are looking for the 'wiper shaft'.

May's wipers do the same thing, which is one reason I was not at the meeting last night.

That's what I'm thinking but I'm still learning so I wanted to confirm before I spend money. Thanks for the help guys. I guess I could leave this to the hubby to figure out, but that would be the easy way out and NO FUN! Very Happy

It's probably the posts. They are the part that stick out of the car that the arms go onto. They wear and will not hold, they get stripped out. Take a look at them and see if there's a groove where there shouldn't be.

If you need the wiper shafts right away, you might try Bugformance. While you're at it, take the motor out, clean and repack the grease in the gear side. It will move nice and fast and be very happy.

Get some rain x in the mean time! My 64 bus has lousy wipers and rain x saved me the one time that I got caught in the rain.

I got to thinking, if the shaft is just worn (where the wiper attaches to it), is there a way to just rebuild the shaft? Is it brass? If not wonder if one could just weld in the worn part?. Just asking! Very Happy

I read on Samba that if you have mig welder that is possible. The parts are only $40 for both sides so not too bad.
