Took Hugo to a chassis dyno to have the 28 year old motor that Ray built checked out of curiosity.

1600cc, dual 40 webers, V26 cam, merged exhaust, racing pulley, 35x31 valves, ported intakes, 8.5:1 compression, never rebuilt, probably 200K miles on it. Stock tranny, close ratio 3rd, stock wheels and tires. Any guesses???? Smile

I forgot how much hugo made, but with that many miles I'll guess 8-10% lost.

Original HP was 72 and 85 torque. But we ported the intakes 20 years ago (after I caught the car on fire at Sears Pt), and added the racing pulley, merged exhaust, and rejetted the carbs recently.

So, Chris what's your guess?

I posted on FB and UAC and got tons of guesses in the 45-65 HP range. Mateo guessed 91 and he wins!

It was 80.1HP and 81 torque at 5400rpms. Surprised even Ray and the dyno tech.  I know the thing felt strong, I probably wasn't as surprised, but it was sure exciting to see their faces!

So, here's my usual detailed report.  First we went to FW Motorsports in Rocklin, CA, we had an appt at 10am with Paul.  But there was trouble in paradise when we arrived, total buzzkill.  Paul said my car is too low to get up on the above ground chassis dyno.

It's too steep with his short portable ramps.

So, two very sad faced people drove away back towards Auburn, but Ray was on the phone riding shotgun and found Evil Genius Racing in West Sac, and they said that they'd see us right then.  Game back on!  They do racecars, so they have a gradual ramp and nothing in the middle to hand up my exhaust or deep sump.

Hank Butler, dyno tech, does an awesome job of strapping it down.

Barely cleared.

Here's Hank calibrating to 3000rpms in the test gear with a digital timing light. I don't have a tachometer.

Top rpm we did 5400, I didn't want to break anything, we were just curious as to approximate HP/Torque.  I was worried about pushing it under that load, it's an OLD motor~!  The heads run a bit hot right now, as opposed to the oil temp.  Hank is great and he does everything very conservatively, I know Hugo was in very good hands.

Best was 80.1 HP, 81 torque, at 5400rpm, and it was still climbing a little. His estimate was 100HP at the flywheel, maybe 84HP at the rear.  Just shows you that all the attention to detail that Ray shows (demonstrated by his 1915cc racecar in the 80's and in my build thread), results in amazing things with smaller displacement.

Great fun!  We are going back to Evil Genius with the new motor for sure, great guys!

You went to Evil Penis and didn't even stop by to say hello?

You're officially off of the Christmas card list!

Lonny: $75 for a baseline. $115 if you want to spend an hour and do some tuning. VERY reasonable. You taking the Sexy Bitch there?!

Greg, I would have if Ray hadn't been with me! It was during work hours and Mateo was holding down the fort at his shop. He was running late since we didn't *plan* to go further than Rocklin...

I was wondering if you know those guys?

Unfortunately. I'm glad they didn't burn your car to the ground though.

Always stirring things up aren't you.

I am not sure if sweet little Mayhem has it in her to take on a Sexy Bitch... Shocked

Ha Ha. Although I am going to swap the tranny so why not.

Get some more practice in on the old line lock...
